1952 Flatwoods Monster: West Virginia''''s Alien Encounter

On September 12, 1952, a group of residents in Flatwoods, West Virginia—including several children—saw a massive fireball streak across the sky and crash into a nearby hill. When they went to investigate, they smelled an extremely pungent chemical odor, like a mix of “sulfur and acetylene.”

Then they saw a huge, black humanoid figure—about 3 meters tall, with a flat, shovel-like head and eyes emitting red light. This “Flatwoods Monster” had no arms, a skirt-like lower body, and seemed to glide toward them as if floating. Everyone was terrified and immediately fled.

Local newspapers covered the incident extensively. While skeptics believe it was just an owl combined with mass hysteria, UFO researchers point out that the chemical smell reported by witnesses is very similar to odors described in other UFO cases.
