On the nights of November 7-8, 1975, Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Michigan became another stop on the wave of UFO intrusions over U.S. Air Force strategic nuclear weapons bases. The level of detail and the number of official documents regarding this incident make it one of the most important cases among nuclear-related UFO events.

In the early hours of that night, base security personnel detected an unidentified object approaching the base’s nuclear weapons storage area. The object emitted a strong yellow light and hovered at an extremely low altitude (approximately 100 meters) directly over the nuclear weapons storage bunkers.

Base command immediately activated the highest level of security protocols. All entrances and exits were sealed, and armed guards were placed on high alert. According to the statement of Air Force security officer Dennis Schaney, he personally witnessed the object hovering directly above the nuclear storage area for about 15 minutes.

Schaney said: “I saw a luminous object about the size of two cars hovering overhead. It was completely silent and unlike any aircraft I had ever seen. I had been a security guard in the Air Force for several years and had never seen anything like it.”

Notably, the radar at Wurtsmith AFB also locked onto the target. However, radar records showed that the target’s flight speed and altitude underwent drastic changes in an extremely short period of time. The radar operator stated that they had “never seen a target move like that without breaking apart.”

After the incident concluded, a U.S. Air Force investigation team arrived on site and conducted an extensive investigation. Their internal report mentioned that “the flight characteristics of the target do not belong to any known U.S. or Soviet equipment.” However, the official public conclusion remained “an object of unknown origin was reported.”

Records from the Department of War indicate that the nuclear weapons storage facility at Wurtsmith Base was a key component of the central United States’ strategic nuclear deterrent force. The behavioral pattern of UFOs specifically overflying nuclear weapons storage areas has led many analysts to believe that extraterrestrials have a significant interest in humanity’s nuclear capabilities.

The UFO research community has long considered UFO sightings at nuclear weapons bases as the category most worthy of serious investigation—because they are supported by military documents and the credibility of the witnesses is extremely high.
