On May 20, 1967, Stefan Michalak, a 49-year-old Polish-Canadian mechanical engineer, arrived near Falcon Lake in Manitoba, close to Winnipeg. He was there to prospect for minerals—but he never expected to find something far more unexpected.

Near the mining area, Michalak spotted two strange, glowing red flying objects hovering in the sky. One of them descended and landed. He approached to observe it, finding the object about the size of a car, silver and dome-shaped, with pale blue lights flashing at the top and bottom. He described it as “standing on rocks like a giant Mexican hat.”

Thinking it might be a U.S. military aircraft, he tried communicating with the “crew” in English, French, Polish, and German. When he got within about 15 meters of the craft, he suddenly smelled something like “sulfur and burnt metal.” A side door opened, and he saw intense light shining from inside.

Michalak put on his welding goggles to observe and saw three glowing panels inside. He reached out to touch the craft’s hull—and immediately something went wrong! A burst of hot gas shot toward his chest, igniting his shirt and undershirt. He quickly grabbed his geological samples and backpack and rushed back to town.

Michalak suffered extensive burns on his chest and abdomen, with wounds forming a neat geometric pattern—resembling the layout of the panels inside the craft. He was hospitalized for several days, and investigators from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Canadian Air Force soon got involved.

At the scene, the investigation team found a circular ground mark about 4.5 meters in diameter—grass and moss were flattened counterclockwise, and rocks at the center showed signs of melting. Radiation tests also revealed abnormal radiation levels at the site.

The Canadian government ultimately labeled the case as “unexplained.” Michalak was haunted by the experience for the rest of his life, and his burns left permanent scars. This case is recognized by the global UFO research community as one of the strongest examples of “physical evidence.”
