In January 1996, a small town in Brazil called Varginha was shaken by a UFO event that stunned the world—dubbed “Brazil’s Roswell.” Thirty years later, a witness to this legendary case has actually stepped onto Capitol Hill in the United States.

On January 15, 2026, three U.S. Congress members participated in a closed-door meeting at the Longworth House Office Building in Washington. Inside the meeting room, there were no typical political topics; instead, a Brazilian neurosurgeon was describing his experience of personally witnessing a non-human life form.

The meeting was arranged by documentary filmmaker James Fox, who has been following this case for over twenty years.

Recap of the Varginha Incident

The incident occurred on January 13, 1996, in the outskirts of Varginha. A geography teacher (who was also an ultralight aircraft pilot) reported seeing a cylindrical flying object smoking and crashing to the ground.

A week later, three girls on their way home from school encountered a cowering creature in an empty lot—red eyes, oily brown skin, and a look of pain in its eyes. Soon after, the entire town of Varginha was filled with military vehicles and ambulances, with rumors that two non-human creatures had been captured, one of which was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The Congressional Meeting Scene

The closed-door meeting was held in the office of Tennessee Representative Tim Burchett, with Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna (Chair of the House Select Subcommittee on the Declassification of Federal Secrets) and Missouri Representative Eric Burlison also in attendance.

73-year-old neurosurgeon Dr. Italo Venturelli recounted to the lawmakers: “I’ve practiced medicine for 46 years and performed thousands of surgeries. It was obvious—this was not human.”

“It looked like a seven-year-old child,” Dr. Italo described through a translator. “Its eyes were pale purple, and both the eyes and head were teardrop-shaped. It conveyed a sense of calm and peace.”

Representative Luna pressed: “What were its hands like?” Dr. Italo demonstrated by raising three fingers and a thumb.

Burchett asked: “Was there any way to communicate? Telepathy or something similar?”

Dr. Italo’s response was intriguing: “I wouldn’t call it telepathy, but empathetic communication—through the eyes.” He said the being looked at him, then out the window at the blue sky, then back at him, as if expressing a desire to be released.

Still Unsolved Mysteries

The case still lacks hard evidence—no photos, no videos, no official documents. But the independent testimonies of over twenty witnesses piece together a compelling story.

James Fox said at a press conference at the National Press Club: “This case could potentially settle the debate of ‘Are we alone?’ all at once.”

Most intriguingly, Fox mentioned that during a 2024 meeting with AARO (the Department of Defense’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office), he asked then-director Dr. Jon T. Kosloski if there were plans to reveal the truth to the public. Kosloski’s response was: “Without Pentagon approval, I can’t even comb my hair. You can quote me on that.”

Significance 30 Years Later

What makes the Varginha incident so special is not just the large number of witnesses, but also the involvement of the military, hospital treatment, and possible U.S. covert operations.
