Soviet KGB UFO Files: Cold War Secrets Revealed

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, a large number of former KGB UFO files were exposed. These documents reveal the Soviet Union’s high level of attention to UFO phenomena during the Cold War—a country mistakenly believed by the West to have “no UFO problem” actually possessed an extremely rich collection of UFO archives.

The KGB’s special files include: incidents of UFOs flying over nuclear missile bases (the 1982 Pervomaisk incident in Ukraine), records of fighter jets scrambled to intercept UFOs but unable to approach, cases where military and civilian radars simultaneously locked onto targets, and even documents about alleged UFO crash retrievals.

The most famous is a document declassified in 1993, known as the “KGB/Soviet Academy of Sciences Joint Report,” which summarizes Soviet UFO data from 1947 to 1990, acknowledging that approximately 20-30% of military-grade UFO incidents remain unexplained.
